There are 65 Town Mutual Insurance Companies operating in select areas throughout Wisconsin and Spring Grove Mutual is one of them. These companies provide insurance protection to Wisconsin property owners to protect them from financial ruin in the event of catastrophe and do so at a fair and reasonable cost. Spring Grove is a community-based insurance company owned by its policyholders.

The Wisconsin Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (WAMIC) works to promote the best interests of the mutual insurance community as well as the best interests of policyholders of these companies. Spring Grove is a member of WAMIC. WAMIC wants to provide policyholders with the best products and services available.
- I've heard that town mutual policies are "assessable" and that's risky for policyholders. What does this mean for me and should I worry?
No, policy holders with town mutuals do not have to worry about being "assessable." We purchase reinsurance which allows us to manage losses from a catastrophic storm so that all policyholder claims can be promptly and fairly paid. Policyholders will NOT be billed to make up for claims incurred during a year. Being "assessable" is more a part of our historic roots of being a town mutual (over 100+ years old) and is not something that applies in today's world. In addition, we are a member of the Wisconsin Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, which allows us and our policyholders to be protected with a solvency fund called the Policyholders Mutual Insurance Company. This assures that even the smallest companies will have the resources to pay claims if catastrophic losses occur.
